Emerson Street Media produced a :90 second sizzle reel for the National Landing Business Improvement District's 2024 Annual Meeting. The video needed to be energetic and showcase the variety of culinary offerings in National Landing in a concise way.

Action

We knew each restaurant/bar would only be able to appear briefly in the video due to the large amount that needed to be included, so it was important to capture each at a time when lighting was optimal, customer flow was high and energy was at a maximum. This resulted in multiple trips to the neighborhood capturing quick shots at several locations in a short amount of time. Developing a fast rapport with wait staff and customers was also critical. Our skill in storytelling in and around public spaces from years of producing broadcast news was paramount to success.

Approach

The amount of growth in the restaurant scene around National Landing was fantastic and incredibly diverse - from walk-up lunch spots to electric happy hour crowds - and the neighborhood had found its footing with so many offerings. The best way to illustrate this was to cover a lot of ground and capture the energy of the scene.

Project

At its 2024 Annual Meeting, the National Landing Business Improvement District wanted to showcase the exciting new restaurants and bars that had arrived to the neighborhood over the past year, as well as the many still to come. Their Director of Marketing and Communications contacted us to request a :90 second sizzle reel that would give a glimpse of the growing list of establishments they wanted to highlight. The video would serve as a segue from the networking portion to the keynote address at the annual meeting held at Amazon’s HQ2 offices in Crystal City, VA.

Result

The video played on a huge screen at Amazon’s HQ2’s Merlin building for hundreds of attendees and achieved the goal of capturing the audience’s attention with eye-catching visuals highlighting the diversity, innovation, and community spirit of the local culinary scene before the meeting’s keynote speaker took over and addressed the crowd. A perfect introduction for a hungry audience.

With the support of our team, the 32nd Annual Giant BBQ Battle attracted over 80,000 attendees, a 540% increase in downtown tourism over a non-typical event weekend, according to the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development.
